Getting Mind-Ready for Performance
A Live Online Workshop for Students, Parents & Teachers
Practised and prepared … but still nervous?
You can know your music, lines, steps or material inside out — and still find that nerves take over when it's time to perform.
Being ready for performance day isn't only about how much you've practised. Mental preparation matters too.
Getting Mind-Ready for Performance is a practical live online workshop designed to help young performers manage performance anxiety, prepare with confidence and develop practical strategies they can use before and during performance day.
There'll be a Little Something Extra for Workshop Attendees!Â
Saturday 3 October — 10:00 am Aust - 12pm NZ
 Students — $25 | Adults (Parents & Teachers) — $35
Students are welcome to attend independently. Parents and teachers are also welcome to attend to learn practical strategies for supporting young performers.
Practised and prepared…but still nervous?
A student can spend weeks or months preparing for a performance and still find that nerves take over when the day finally arrives.
They might experience racing thoughts, self-doubt, difficulty concentrating or that familiar feeling of:
“What if I make a mistake?”
Performance preparation needs to go beyond simply practising the material.
Learning how to recognise and respond to nerves, manage unhelpful thinking and develop a reliable pre-performance routine can help a young performer walk into a performance feeling more prepared and in control.
That's what we'll work on together in this workshop.
What We'll Cover
During this practical live session, we'll explore five important areas of performance preparation.
Managing Performance Anxiety
Understand why nerves happen and learn practical strategies to reduce and manage performance anxiety before it becomes overwhelming.
Are You Really Prepared?
Learn how to check that the important preparation requirements have been covered — helping to reduce uncertainty and last-minute worries.
What Are Examiners Looking For?
Gain insight into what examiners are actually looking and listening for, and what really matters when a student walks into an examination or assessment.
Practical Mindset Tools
Learn simple exercises and strategies to manage unhelpful thoughts, improve focus and approach a performance with a more useful mindset.
The Pre-Performance Warm-Up
Discover a practical mental warm-up that successful performers use immediately before performing — helping the mind as well as the body get ready for the performance ahead.
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is particularly useful for school-aged students and young performers preparing for:
Music examinations and performance assessments • VCE performance assessments • Dance or drama performances • Auditions • Concerts and recitals • Public speaking • Other situations where they need to perform under pressure.
It is also suitable for parents and teachers who would like to better understand performance anxiety and learn practical ways to support young performers.
Students do not need a parent or teacher to attend with them
Your Presenter — Joanne Roberts
Joanne Roberts is a music educator, examiner and founder of The Confidence Factory.
With more than 35 years' experience in music education, Joanne has worked with thousands of young performers — from beginners through to senior secondary students preparing for examinations and high-level performances.
Her experience as both a teacher and examiner gives her an understanding of performance from both sides of the examination room.
Through The Confidence Factory, Joanne now brings that experience together with practical performance-confidence strategies designed to help young performers prepare for the mental side of performing — not just the technical side.
